What Does the Bible Say About Being a Mother?

May is the month that we celebrate mothers on Mother's Day. Ms. Julia Ward and Ms. Anna Jarvis petitioned for this day to honor mother's and was signed by Pres. Woodrow Wilson on May 8, 1914.

Being a mother is a very important role that God chose for us to endure. God decided that Eve would be the first living mother. Genesis 3:20 says, "Adam named his wife Eve, because she would become the mother of all the living." So today's mother has a great accountability to do what God has required of us. For Titus 2:4-5 says, "Then they can train the younger women to love their husbands and children, to be self-controlled and pure, to be busy at home, to be kind, and to be field to their husbands, so that no one will malign the word of God." This scripture tells us that we must train our children to do what is right in order to please God and corollary his word. Additionally we are to honor and love our husbands in marriage. In the book of 1 Samuel, Hannah and Peninnah were married to Elkanah. Peninnah had children, but Hannah could not. Hannah prayed and prayed to God to have a child. Because God answered her prayer and gave her a son named Samuel, she gave him back to the Lord. And God was able to use him for His purpose and His will. As Christian mothers, we should be giving our children back to God, for His use, because they are gifts to us. For Psalm 127:3 says, "Sons are a inheritance from the Lord, children a bonus from him."

Mother To Daughter Poems

We must also teach our children about God. This world is evil and sin is all the time around. There are so many negative influences that can lead our children astray. But if we teach our children about God's word, even if they go astray, they will come back to God and the truth. For Ephesians 6:4 says, "Fathers, (and Mothers) do not exasperate your children; instead, bring them up in the training and schooling of the Lord." By following this scripture, our children will never be lost.

The Verse is ...................... "A Mother & Daughter"...... Nurtured by time through the highs and the lows,......The love which is theirs ever deepens and grows.......And both turn more patient as days become years,......Growing older and wiser through gladness and tears.......They cling to each other in times of despair,......Taking comfort in knowing the other one's there.......Providing support with a look or a touch,......It's the littlest things, that to them, mean so much!......Deeply concerned for the ones they hold dear,......They mark birthdays and holidays all through the year.......Building family traditions each step of the way,......Sharing good news and bad, as they go day to day.......They're a mother & daughter, and right from the start,......They were "forever joined" in a place of the heart.......And the lifetime of love which they willingly give,......Will enhance and sustain them as long as they live.......

Discipline is a big part of being a mother. Even though this field is hard to discuss, this is very important in raising children. By disciplining our children, we fear that they will fear us, or hate us, but they should be taught to fear the Lord. Just as we are punished by God when we do wrong, our children must learn that being punished when they do wrong, is a studying caress to do right. Proverbs 13:24 says, "He who spares the rod hates his son, but he who loves him is faithful to discipline him." Even though spanking has become a controversial issue, if it's done out of love and instruction, God allows for it to be done as a tool of discipline. Proverbs 29:15-17 also says, "The rod of revising imparts wisdom, but a child left to himself disgraces his mother. When the wicked thrive, so does sin, but the righteous will see their downfall. Discipline your son, and he will give you peace; he will bring delight to your soul."

Nurturing our children will supply support, acceptance and unconditional love. We are to be kind, kind and forgiving, just as Christ is to us. (Ephesians 4:32) Ephesians 4:29 also says, "Do not let any unwholesome talk come out of your mouths, but only what is helpful for construction others up according to their needs, that it may benefit those who listen." When we talk to our children about their lives or something that they have done wrong, we must be faithful about the words we choose. Using hurtful or demeaning words can hurt our children deeply and perhaps scar their lives. Most hurtful words are said out of anger and Satan uses these times to work through us to corollary our children. But if we think about every word that's said to our children before we say them, then it will benefit rather than hurt. And they will feel approved by us rather then searching for acceptance from the face world.

The bible gives us clear commands of being a mother. From teaching and training to discipline and nurturing. We also should be role models, because our children model what we do, more than what we say. We have to be Christ-like in order to teach our children to be like Christ. Deuteronomy 6:5-9 says, "Love the Lord your God with all your strength. These commandments that I give you today are to be upon your hearts. Impress them on your children. Talk about them when you sit at home and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you get up. Tie them as symbols on your hands and bind them on your foreheads. Write them on the door frames of your houses and on your gate." If the Lord has blessed you to be a mother, you should take this role seriously. And if we are faithful to do this when they are children, teenagers and early adults, then we will raise productive, loving and God-fearing people.

Tears Drop

Tears dropped from my eyes
As the days passed by
It was painful yet so dear
I had to feel it and bear

I remembered exactly when father was no more
It had jolted me and tore apart
The mother was still there to console
I heaved a sigh of relief with strong pole

Mother To Daughter Poems

As mother proved to be strong lady
There was felt no vacuum for the daddy
He had left no fortune but settled us in strong hand
Mother took the control and treated us like friends

Sundays in the South: 30 Selected Poems Set to Music Overview

On the deathbed of her beloved mother, Tamara Martin inherited her collected papers and writings. In the terrible grief, pain and sorrow of her death and funeral. they were put aside in a box, which ended up in a dusty attic. Some years later, after a difficult divorce and the joy of meeting and marrying her true soul mate Michael, she again discovered the box of her mother's writing and saw for the first time, a forgotten folder of poems. Thus began Tamara's journey of discovery to full awareness of the creative force that was her mother. Vern's creativity and talent had been buried beneath the weight of bigotry, indifference, ignorance and intolerance for a lifetime.

In this special selection, taken from the book of the same name, you will discover poems of great depth and poignancy contrasted with light funny poems of 'Maw-Maws Magic Gum', 'bees caught in a jar' and 'shirt tails' for a kite written for sons, daughters and grandchildren. There are also poems of universal appeal to all of us about life and its many problems that give new insight into the choices made, pathways taken and their impact on others. There are poems of immense passion and love for family and of the times Tamara and Vernice lived through. In the book there are many more wonderful photographs of friends and family members that provide a fascinating glimpse back to the splendor of pre-war Egan, Eunice, Crowley and Lafayette, Louisiana.

We owed the body and soul to parents
It was true and very much apparent
We had learnt lessons of self sufficiency
Mother worked hard for us not to feel any deficiency

I remember and count essential moments
Mother stood firm and gave no vents
It was her heroic endeavor to keep us under fold
She taught us to be brave and bold

Today when I look back and open the memory
It all moves like movie with all impressions to carry
I move with all the scenes as if it has happened yesterday
It has ended with the nightmare in a day

We were hand to mouth for many days
We could find no respectful way
It required great struggle to survive
We too were determined for qualified drive

It did not break us from within
It was situation like no loss no wins
We had learnt a lot to stand fast
The situation was not to remain same till last

I have vivid memory and painful past
Even though it made us tough to stand fast
It had made us to forget and leave behind
There was to be left no trace to find

Though mother is not with me today
I have not forgotten those days
She was by all means an alert guard
To take us in force and look forward

I have raised great empire with all means
She is there in all the corners and seen
It was her resolute stand that took us out of storm
She was as dedicated as before and fully informed

I shed tears not for being left alone
But her performance to take us out from cyclone
Had she lost her courage and proximity of mind
We would have been no where to find

Though God is great to take us to shore
We pray all those dear ones and adore
We can do nothing for their brave front
Only last glorious moments make us to confront

mum Son Wedding Song - I'll always Be Your mum

I'll always Be Your Mother is a new mother and son wedding song written in 2006 and just released to the collective in May of 2007. This mother and son wedding song is very special to me because I wrote the lyrics for it for my son's wedding in June 2006. The lyrics come from my heart to my son on his wedding day with his new bride and their future together.

I want to let my son know that I will always be there for him. Either he needs a shoulder to cry on or just someone to talk to. I tell my son of my wishes for him and his new bride on their wedding day and their future together when they have kids of their own. I know God will watch over them from heaven up about and guide them through their life together. Since writing and releasing this song my son has also made me a grandmother of a special wee girl that I love so much.

Elizabeth Barrett industrialized a serious respiratory ailment by age 15 and a horse riding urgency shortly thereafter left her with a serious spinal injury. These two condition problems remained with her all of her life.

In 1828 her mother died and four years later the house business faltered and her father sold the Durham estate and moved the house to a coastal town. He was stern, protective, and even tyrannical and forbid any of his children to marry. In 1833 Elizabeth published her first work, a translation of Prometheus Bound by the Greek dramatist Aeschylus.

A few years later the house moved to London. Her father began sending Elizabeth's younger brothers and sisters to Jamaica to help with the house business. Elizabeth was distressed because she openly opposed slavery in Jamaica and on the house plantations and because she did not want her siblings sent away.

Early Writing

In 1838 Elizabeth Barrett wrote and published The Seraphim and Other Poems. The variety took the form of a classical Greek tragedy and expressed her deep Christian sentiments.

Shortly thereafter, Elizabeth's poor condition prompted her to move to Italy, accompanied by her dear brother Edward, whom she referred to as "Bro." Unfortunately he drowned a year later in a pilotage urgency and Elizabeth retuned to London, seriously ill, emotionally broken, and hopelessly grief-stricken. She became reclusive for the next five years, confining herself to her bedroom.

She continued to write poetry, however, and published a variety in 1844 naturally titled, >Poems. It was also published in the United States with an introduction by Edgar Allan Poe. In one of the poems she praised one of the works of Robert Browning, which gained his attention. He wrote back to her, expressing his admiration for >Poems.

Robert Browning

Over the next twenty months Elizabeth Barrett and Robert Browning exchanged 574 letters. An admiration, respect, and love for each other grew and flourished. In 1845 Robert Browning sent Elizabeth a telegram which read, "I love your verses with all my heart, dear Miss Barrett. I do, as I say, love these books with all my heart - and I love you too." A few months later the two met and fell in love.

Inspired by her love for Robert Browning, Elizabeth Barrett wrote the 44 love poems which were collected in Sonnets From the Portuguese and which were at last published in 1850. Her growing love for Robert and her capability to express her emotions in the sonnets and love poems allowed Elizabeth to escape from the oppression of her father and the depression of her recluse.

Her father strongly opposed the relationship so she kept her love affair a underground as long as possible. The incorporate eloped in 1846 and her father never forgave her or spoke to her thereafter.

Elizabeth Barrett Browning and her husband, Robert, went to Pisa, Italy and soon settled in Florence where she spent the rest of her life, with occasional visits to London. Soon Elizabeth's condition improved adequate to be able to give birth to the couple's only child, Robert.

In 1850 she published Sonnets From the Portuguese. Some have speculated that the title was chosen to hide the personal nature of the sonnets and to imply that the variety was a translation of earlier works. However, Robert's pet name for Elizabeth was "my minute Portuguese," a reflection on Elizabeth's darker, mediterranean complexion, possibly inherited from the family's Jamaican ties.

While living in Florence, Elizabeth Barrett Browning published 3 more requisite works. She addressed Italian political topics and some other unpopular subjects, such as slavery, child labor, male domination, and a woman's right to intellectual freedom. Though her popularity decreased as a corollary of these choices, she was read and heard and recognized throughout Europe. She died in Florence in 1861.

<b>The Poem, "How Do I Love Thee?"

Sonnet Xliii, "How Do I Love Thee?" is probably Elizabeth Barrett Browning's most popular love poem. It is heartfelt, romantic, loving, elegant, and simple. It is also quite memorable.

The love poem starts with the question, "How Do I Love Thee?" and proceeds to count the ways. Her Christian spirituality testifies that she loves Robert "to the depth and breadth and height my soul can reach." She then professes seven more ways that she loves Robert. Her "passion put to use in my old griefs" refers to the depth of her former despair. The love that "I seemed to lose with my lost saints" refers to the lost loves of her mother and her brother.

The love poem ends with the announcement that time and death will not diminish her love for Robert because "if God choose, I shall but love thee best after death."

How Do I Love Thee

How do I love thee? Let me count the ways.

I love thee to the depth and breadth and height

My soul can reach, when feeling out of sight

For the ends of Being and ideal Grace.

I love thee to the level of everyday's

Most quiet need, by sun and candlelight.

I love thee freely, as men strive for Right;

I love thee purely, as they turn from Praise.

I love thee with the passion put to use

In my old griefs, and with my childhood's faith.

I love thee with a love I seemed to lose

With my lost saints,--I love thee with the breath,

Smiles, tears, of all my life!--and, if God choose,

I shall but love thee best after death.

Letter to My Daughter Best

Letter to My Daughter Overview

For a world of devoted readers, a much-awaited new volume of absorbing stories and inspirational wisdom from one of our best-loved writers.

Dedicated to the daughter she never had but sees all around her, Letter to My Daughter reveals Maya Angelou’s path to living well and living a life with meaning. Told in her own inimitable style, this book transcends genres and categories: guidebook, memoir, poetry, and pure delight.

Here in short spellbinding essays are glimpses of the tumultuous life that led Angelou to an exalted place in American letters and taught her lessons in compassion and fortitude: how she was brought up by her indomitable grandmother in segregated Arkansas, taken in at thirteen by her more worldly and less religious mother, and grew to be an awkward, six-foot-tall teenager whose first experience of loveless sex paradoxically left her with her greatest gift, a son.

Whether she is recalling such lost friends as Coretta Scott King and Ossie Davis, extolling honesty, decrying vulgarity, explaining why becoming a Christian is a “lifelong endeavor,” or simply singing the praises of a meal of red rice–Maya Angelou writes from the heart to millions of women she considers her extended family.

Like the rest of her remarkable work, Letter to My Daughter entertains and teaches; it is a book to cherish, savor, re-read, and share.

“I gave birth to one child, a son, but I have thousands of daughters. You are Black and White, Jewish and Muslim, Asian, Spanish speaking, Native Americans and Aleut. You are fat and thin and pretty and plain, gay and straight, educated and unlettered, and I am speaking to you all. Here is my offering to you.”
